Michael J. Varhola is Editor-in-Chief/Webmaster of SKIRMISHER Online Gaming Magazine and Living History Online, runs several publications for University of Maryland University College, and is most recently the author of Everyday Life During the Civil War. He is also a former U.S. Army infantryman, having served with the 1st Infantry Division (Forward) during the Cold War and with the 3rd Armored Division during Desert Storm.
