Children will play games they like again and again, and if the games they play are educational, then they have a chance to learn every time they play. One game produced by a company called Aristoplay that is both fun and educational can teach children about great women.
Great Women are featured in five different 52-card decks. Each deck features 10 notable women, with one "face" card showing a picture of the woman and four "information" cards containing key information about her. Rules for a simple, rummy-like game are provided, and the large, attractive cards are also suitable for use as flashcards or quizzing.
Sets include "Foremothers," "Founders and Firsts," "Poets & Writers," "Composers," and "Athletes." A wide variety of women, representing a broad range of accomplishments, are included in each deck. For example, the women featured in the "Founders and Firsts" set are Clara Barton, Mary McLoud Bethune, Elizabeth Blackwell, Nellie Bly, Antoinette Brown, Amelia Earhart, Emma Goldman, Belva Lockwood, Mary Lyon, and Margaret Sanger; the "Wild Card" in this deck is Gertrude Stein (of course!).
