Skirmisher releases new gaming miniatures at Gen Con 2004

Check out Little Wars

Little Wars by H.G. Wells, republished with appendices by Skirmisher

 Updated January 31, 2005.

Skirmisher Publishing attended the August 19-22 Gen Con fantasy convention in Indianapolis, where it released a new line of orc gaming miniatures, the Orcs of the Triple Death, complete with a mini-booklet of orc warrior game stats, new items, and feats for d20 3.5 gaming.

Also available at the Skirmisher booth were its two new publications, Tests of Skill (a d20 Sourcemodule for character levels 3-7) and Little Wars (a historic reprinting of H.G. Wells' miniatures wargame), as well as Warriors (a Comprehensive d20 Sourcebook for Fantasy Gaming) and materials from the upcoming Nuisances, a d20 Sourcebook full of attitude and foul deeds for DMs looking for tricks to inflict on their players.

Orc Swordsman, Orcs of the Triple Death.

Orcs of the Triple Death are Skirmisher's first miniatures, intended as the first of several monstrous offerings, and come packaged with a gaming supplement and a variety of continuing free web download releases.

These beautifully detailed, hand-painted resin miniatures for 25-28 mm gaming are suitable for customization or immediate use.

Details include different faces for most of the entire line of figures; straps, studs, and buttons on harnesses and pouches; skull belt buckles; a variety of helmets, chain coifs, and hair styles (including shaved, braided, and ponytailed); different weapons for each melee warrior; real string in the archers' bows; and of course, the signature three-skull shield of the Orcs of the Triple Death.

Orcs of the Triple Death come in 7 different sets, each box with individually shaped, flock-lined slots to protect the pieces (and sturdy enough for continued use as storage). All boxes include a sturdy card-stock mini-booklet with d20 statistics for the entire line of Triple Death orcs, whether you're picking up a box of 3 Orc Halbardiers or the awesome 15-piece War Band.

After Gen Con all 5 sets from the Con were made available at this website and many fine hobby and gaming shops. Our 2-figure Champions set costs $7.95 (shown below) and all of our 3-figure sets cost $11.95 (Berserkers, Halberdiers, Archers, and Swordsmen). In the coming months we also released the 8-piece Raiding Party ($31.95) and the 15-piece War Band ($59.95, shown below with some of our other sets).

The d20 stats which come with the figures include many new templates for orc warriors and new gear, plus two Subtypes, the Feat substitution packages presented by Skirmisher Publishing in its "NPCs" series of books, Warriors and Experts. Full background and additional information on the Orcs of the Triple Death will be made available for free at this website.

Included in the packaging itself is the gaming info for the Orc Talwar; Barbarian armor in Hide, Scale Mail, Chainmail, and Breastplate; the Subtypes Archer (Longbow) and Halberdier; the Orc Berserker (sample figure shown at right), the Orc Double Axe Champion, and many more.

These figures are now available in our store. We conclude our preview with a closer look at some of the figures, sets, and prices.

Here are two of the three figures (extreme left and extreme right) from the Orc Halberdier set ($11.95) flanking three Orc Swordsmen (Orc Swordsmen set, $11.95), showing the details of how weapons, helmets, hair styles, and stances are differently sculpted even within figure packs.
